Dulce de Leche Pound Cake with Candied, Spiced Cashews

I seem to be making a lot of bundt cakes lately. Most of this is related to the ease of portion control for the recipients (because I rarely keep baked goods in the house). But there’s a portion of it that directly relates to the pan being my grandmother’s. It’s certainly not the oldest and very likely purchased after I was born. But it was one of the things my mother gave me in her zeal to get rid of the three extra kitchens worth of supplies she had stored up. Shirred Eggs

Sometimes when you’re scrounging in the fridge, the best thing you can find is the humble and unassuming egg. A couple of weekends ago I had considerable amounts of real-life work to do from home. I desperately wanted to avoid going into the office, but I needed to make sure that the kitchen didn’t catch me unaware or seduce me into creating things all day long. Thankfully, the pitiful state of our refrigerator contents kept that possibility in check, except for one little meal.

Saturday’s simple breakfast designed to keep The Big Guy’s stomach from going on walkabout and still give me a hands-off recipe that would let me work and still eat something that made me feel like I was having a gourmet meal. This recipe isn’t all that dissimilar to the recipe we made a while back for Eggs Baked in Summer Vegetable Ragout, only this time a bit simpler and truly designed for breakfast. « Read the rest of this entry »
